HEALTH AND BEAUTY Have you ever wondered why people feel that their looks are so important and why they are so engrossed in the quality of products and accessories they put on their body? Well for most people that's mostly because they are concerned about what other people are going to think about them and most definitely makes a difference in teh way they are treated. For young peole it's atractiveness to the opposite sex. Well i have a slightly different approach to things. when I was younger, in my teenage years I was obsessed with the way i looked and if I was a certiain weight or didn't have the clothes that wanted to wear, then I wouldn't go out and find an excuse not to. When I grew a little I decided that I wasn't going to pay that much attention to my appearance and made up my mind that beauty isn't everything. Later, when I met my husband, he always put so much emphasis on looking your best and wearing high quality clothes and pushed me to put more efforts into my looks. My first reaction was that if you are going to create friction in our relationship because of what I wear, or how I keep my hair, then maybe you don't really love me, for me. I do believe that you should look decent and keep clean for yourself to feel better about yourself but there's something more. I was reading the Bible one day and found something that caught my attention and chenged my outlook this subect forever. The scripture was as follows: Romans 12:1 (NIV) Therrefore, I urge you, brothers, i view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Another scripture that supports this is: 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 (NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour your God with your body. So the way I took this is that as a christian, who has given her life to God and accepted Jesus as her saviour, then I am inclined to worhsip God with all of my body and all of my mind and all of my soul. So I praise God with my words and my heart, but how do I worship God with my body? So these scriptures opened my eyes to the answer. keeping my body healthy, well-kept and well groomed was of the utmost importance as this was another thing that I could do to worship God and show Him respect and love. After all He gave me this body in love and so why shouln't I take care of it as well as I possibly could? It only shows my appreciation if I do. And if I let go and treat it badly, by over-eating or eating unhelthily, dressing inappropriately, keeping poor hygene, unkempt hair, not exercising etc..etc.. then I'm just kind of throwing his gift back in His face. Juts ike giving someone an extremely expensive gift, then without saying thank you they put it to one side give it to their dog who drags it through the mud, completely ruining it. So the way that I see it now is that neglecting my body is completely out of the question. So my whole attitude changed, which lead to a change in my behaviour towards my body from dressing up in good clothes, to keeping my legs oiled shaved, and exercised. The most surprising thing is that I a lot of things changed after this. I felt better in myself, I had a lot more confidence, I smiled a lot more, I was more tolerant with my son, had a better relationship with my husband, I performed better at work and found that I was much more comfortable spending time in social situations. The truth of the matter is that this change was both on the outside as well as on the inside. I felt more at peace with God, which means that I was more at peace with myself and that meant that everything that I did for myself, taking care of myself, I did in respect for God, which made it so much more satisfying. This is not to say that if I don't do my hair I'm committing a sin, far from it, but if you do something like smoke or drink too much alcohol, which is a direct insult to your body's health....well then yes that is a sin, because it's something that destroys the body slowly. i firmly believe that eeach and every one of us should take care of ourselves as best we can and offer up everything that we do to God. If you feel that something can't be offered to God, because it feels less than good enough for Him, then you probably shouldn't be doing that in the first place. We are lucky that today we have so much research and information about what is good for us and what isn't. So I feel that we should use it to our advantage and praise God every step of the way. throughout this page I will be writing up some hints and tips to keep your body in ship shape form that will help you stand out of a crowd in jesus name. Thank you Lord for opening my eyes to your word and guiding me to be closer to you in every way. Please help me to leave behind anything that does not promote my health and beauty and let people see your light shining in my life in every way.
